EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Type: Part-Time / 15 to 20 hours a week

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director serves as the principal leader of the St. Johnsbury History & Heritage Center and is
responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s administration, programs, finances, and
budget, as well as implementing the strategic plan. This role is also pivotal in driving programming,
marketing efforts, fostering community engagement, spearheading fundraising initiatives, and
encouraging and guiding volunteers. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) ORGANIZATION OPERATIONS: Oversees and implements resources to ensure that the organization's
operations are appropriate to fulfill the mission: The St. Johnsbury History & Heritage Center, a
nonprofit organization, acquires and preserves historic collections and conducts purposeful
educational programs that interpret the rich heritage of St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Responsible for effective administration of facilities, programs, and overall operations.

Responsible for engaging with and providing support to a dedicated and dynamic volunteer base.

Responsible for fundraising to ensure organizational sustainability.

2) BOARD GOVERNANCE: Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a
timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make
informed decisions.

3) FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE & VISIBILITY: Works with the Board to maintain and ensure the organization's
financial health.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

A passion for history and a talent for engaging with others to inspire volunteers and promote the
organization’s positive attributes.

Skilled in fundraising and actively involved in community development initiatives.

An associate’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Demonstrated leadership characterized by transparency and high integrity.

Exceptional organizational skills, including proficiency in planning, delegating, program development,
and task management.

Ability to articulate and promote a strategic vision for the St Johnsbury History and Heritage Center to

the community, volunteers, the Board, volunteers, and donors.

Proficiency in collaborating with and motivating board members and volunteers.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Capability to connect with and engage diverse groups of volunteers and donors.Proven experience in supervising and working effectively with volunteers.

Excellent public speaking skills, computer, technology, and social media skills.

ACTUAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Work physically at the 421 Summer Street, St Johnsbury location at least 80% of the time, with an allowable up to 20% work from home agreement.

Serving as the St Johnsbury History & Heritage Center’s primary spokesperson to the organization's constituents, the media and the public.

Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.

Oversees the implementation of vibrant and engaging programs.

Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the mission.

Oversee organization of Board of Directors and committee meetings.

Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.

Review and approve contracts for services.

Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
